Thank you for having me. I don't consider this «duty» at all

I would like to think I am making friends now.

Social networking is good if it doesn't replace true friendship. Like everything else, there has to be balance and self-control when it comes to the Internet. It can be a great learning tool or a great waste of time. It depends on the person.

I am not quite sure what you mean by my government «giving journalists fields of action.» The war in Bosnia was triggered by ethnic tensions that were unleashed by the collapse of Yugoslavia. I never reported for the government. I was always and am an independent journalist.

I really do like to Scuba dive. I learned when I lived in Florida. Most of the time, I will go to the Carribean (when I can afford it!) I especially like watching fish or other sea life up close. I have also explored wrecked ships. I love the peacefulness and quiet that often doesn't exist on land.

I like vodka, but I like to put it in the freezer and sip on it with something to eat. I am not crazy about Matryoushka dolls...but many of my friends and family in America want me to bring them one. I did not meet Mevded.

It's hard to describe any country in three words… but if I had to try it might be hospitality, friendliness and maybe potholes...lot's of potholes.

Well, if those «guys» were sitting in my classes, they would see that I am not inciting riots or passing secret messages. The best anecdote to conspiracy is fact. Maybe, just maybe… I am here simply to talk to students about the profession and how journalism is changing. By the way, the students at TSU are very good!

I have read about them, but I do not know specifics. When it comes to confronting problems, it takes an informed, determined but also a patient citizenry to solve them. I think the people of Togliatti know this better than I do.

Everytime I come to Russia I learn something new...how important family life is, how friendly people can be and how long (8 to 10 hours) a meal can last!

I liked covering history-in-the-making...like the fall of the Berlin Wall, the democratic movements in central and eastern Europe, the first free elections in Russia's history, and stories about ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

You describe a country I don't know about. The Russia I have seen is far different

1. I don't like it when any government tries to withhold or control information… If it has to do with genuine national security, like protecting citizens from harm, than it's necessary for the government to keep some secrets. I think most of the WikiLeaks were more an embarrassment than a threat to national security.

2. I think Osama bin Laden is dead. Think of the logic of it...Most of the time the US military prefers to bomb a target until it looks like the face of the Moon. The military, ordered by President Obama, sent special forces to capture or kill him. They wanted to be sure.

Americans DO eat a lot of fast food...cheap and convenient, but very often unhealthy. Doctors prescribe controlled medications, but there are many OTC (over-the-counter) medications without the need for a prescription.

Most Americans know Russia is a huge country and many think it's cold most of the time. You are great in hockey, science, ballet and chess. We beat the pants off of you in baseball and video games. LOL

I had to do many reports I did not like… covering the war in Bosnia and worrying about my son's future if something had happened to me was a big concern. I never went against my own conscience. Journalism is a profession of truth. It's ok to make mistakes (as I have from time to time)and to correct them. It's never ok to be untruthful.

Americans really don't know much about the conflict in Georgia. I can't pretend to understand the complexities of this conflict. When I look at it from a distance, I do ask myself...why Russia, such a large nation, cannot workout an agreement with Georgia, a very small country.

I like journalism because I like telling the stories of people. Good journalism is good journalism everywhere. It can be local or it can be international. I don't like those who become journalists for the wrong reasons...fame or money.

The USA and Russia are two large and highly developed nations. The rivalry after the Second World War hurt both countries. There are more similarites between Russia and the United States than many realize. I believe relations will grow stronger.

You ask many hard questions. I not only covered the war in Bosnia. I also reported from Serbia and Croatia. I also covered Bosnia Serbs. I did not put my own opinion in my reports. I gave people in those countries the opportunity to tell others their stories.

I did not cover the trials in the Hague, but I do know most, not all, of the atrocities were committed in Bosnia. I know what it was like in Sarajevo. I saw the sniper fire and the bombings.

I saw much suffering in countries like Bosnia, Somalia and Haiti. I never went into an area with the attitude «what a great photo opportunity.» My goal was simply to report what I observed.

I was also witness to great acts of courage...those who fought to bring democracy to Russia, those who rescued people from starvation in Somalia and those who used peaceful means to end war.

I chose journalism because I like reporting and I get to meet interesting people and places...like Togliatti! Journalism as a profession is changing. If you choose to be a journalist, you do it for the right reasons...reporting in the most truthful way you can.

Some of the reporting I did was dangerous, but it is the career I choose. I didn't look for danger and I didn't like war. I covered areas Americans knew little about. What I wanted to do was something meaningful. There are many professions like that. I know many people who work very hard everyday for their families...that is meaningful.

Russia is a vast country and has many resources. There is a very high level of education and you are blessed with many natural resources. I think Russians and Americans are more alike, than unalike.

No country can absorb Russia. You know from your own history that other countries have tried and have failed.

You ask a lot of good questions. Most Americans believe the Second World War was won by the United States, Great Britain and The Soviet Union. Those who know more about this period also understand the Russian people suffered the most. Many Europeans forget that America fought another war with Japan.

Freedom of Speech in America is real. It is protected by the Constitution. No government can make laws restricting this without changing the Constitution.

Obama was very popular when he was first elected, but was weakened by the economic crisis which hit our country in 2008. There is much opposition to his policies, but I believe he will be re-elected
